Sugar
spheres
are
inert
spherical
granules
composed
mainly
by
sucrose
and
the
remainder
is
maize
starch.
SUGLETS®
offer
exceptional
qualities:
an
excellent
flowability,
a
good
sphericity,
a
high
mechanical
stability,
a
narrow
particle
size
distribution
within
the
requested
size.
SUGLETS®
are
used
as
critical
excipients
in
capsule
and
tablet
formulation,
particularly
in
multiparticulate
formulations.
They
are
the
core
upon
which
a
drug
is
coated,
usually
used
for
controlled
or
sustained
release
drug
delivery
technologies.
The
most
important
advantage
of
using
SUGLETS®
is
the
assurance
to
obtain
a
high
uniformity
of
dosage
in
the
final
product
(high
uniformity
of
drug
content
in
the
final
dosage
form).
SUGLETS®
are
drug-free
cores
which
can
be
coated
by
a
suspension
or
a
solution
of
Active
Ingredients
usually
using
a
binder
like
POVIPHARM®
(povidone).
Coating
technologies
used
with
SUGLETS®
are
either
a
classic
coating
pan
process
or
a
fluidised
bed
coating
process.
The
particle
shape
is
a
very
important
factor.
The
SUGLETS®
sphericity
allows
an
accurate
calculation
of
the
drug
quantity
sprayed
on
pellets.
For
an
Active
Ingredient
delivery
system
(DDS),
a
second
polymeric
layer
can
be
applied
on
pellets
in
order
to
obtain
the
desired
drug
dissolution
profiles.
